As your local auto repair shop, Crusader Autoworks understands how important your exhaust system is. Responsible for collecting and directing harmful emissions away from your vehicle, your exhaust system reduces the amount of pollutants that are released both into your car, and into the environment. Having a working exhaust system is vital to your safety, as well as to the safety of your passengers. An exhaust system that is older, or malfunctioning, could cost you a pretty penny on repairs–or worse: lead to Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
Your exhaust system is made up of a variety of pipes and tubing that work hard to streamline vehicle operation, all the while maximizing your vehicle’s performance (and fuel efficiency! Who doesn’t love saving money?) While all of this sounds great for your vehicle, it’s incredibly important to also focus on the health and safety benefits of a well-running vehicle. During the internal combustion process, your engine emits dangerous gasses as the byproduct of the said combustion process. Your exhaust will then collect these harmful emissions, and funnels them through your catalytic converter. From there, your catalytic converter will transform these harmful gasses, like carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxide, into less harmful gasses such as oxygen, nitrogen, water vapor, as well as carbon dioxide.
At this point you may be asking yourself, “Well, how do I know when it’s time to have my exhaust system evaluated?” Well, the answer to this may be a little tricky. On average, your exhaust system is designed to last anywhere from two to three years. However, even with all of that said, it’s important to keep in mind the importance of semi-regular exhaust system inspections. In between your systems, however, you should be on the lookout for any of these warning signs of a failing exhaust:
